NEW YORK — As the Red Sox try to beat tough lefty Nestor Cortes in the Bronx on Thursday night, they’ll do so without their certified lefty-masher outfielder.
Rob Refsnyder was originally hitting third in Boston’s lineup but was scratched an hour before first pitch due to right wrist discomfort. In his place, Romy Gonzalez moved up two spots in the order and Wilyer Abreu will get a rare start against a lefty as the right-fielder. Boston’s lineup, which includes just three lefties, does not have first baseman Triston Casas or designated hitter Masataka Yoshida in it. The Red Sox and Yankees will open their final series of 2024 — a four-game set — at 7:15 p.m. ET.
