Red Sox-Orioles game Monday has new start time due to weather

BALTIMORE — The Red Sox and Orioles’ game Monday at Camden Yards has been moved to 2:35 p.m. It’s Baltimore’s home opener.

It initially was scheduled for 3:05 p.m. but the Orioles moved it up a half hour due to forecasted inclement weather, the team announced.

The game is on NESN.

Lefty Sean Newcomb will make his Red Sox debut opposite Baltimore left-handed starter Cade Povich.

Newcomb, a Mass. native who graduated from Middleborough High and grew up rooting for the Red Sox, won Boston’s fifth starter job after entering camp as a non-roster invitee on a minor league deal.

The 31-year-old worked with the staff to change/improve the shape of his cutter during spring training. He also turned his slider into more of a sweeper.

He’ll be the fifth starter temporarily as starters Brayan Bello and Lucas Giolito are nearing returns from the IL. Bello will make a rehab start for Triple-A Worcester at Jacksonville on Tuesday. Giolito will make a rehab start for the WooSox on Wednesday.

Povich, 24, posted a 5.20 ERA in 16 starts for the O’s as a rookie in 2024. He made two starts against Boston, allowing six runs in 11 innings (4.91 ERA).
