MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Lefty Brennan Bernardino will start for the Red Sox against the Twins on Saturday here at Target Field.
Bernardino will serve as the opener for Boston’s bullpen game. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m.
The 32-year-old has served as an opener seven times for the Red Sox over the past two years. He has allowed just two earned runs in 11 innings (1.64 ERA). He has recorded 16 strikeouts and just three walks while allowing seven hits.
This will be Bernardino’s second time opening a game this season. He went 2 scoreless and hitless innings against the Guardians at Fenway Park on April 18. Overall this season, he has given up just one run in 12 ⅓ innings (0.73 ERA). Opponents are batting .105 against him.
Righty Pablo López, who is 2-2 with a 4.83 ERA in six starts, will start for Minnesota. The Twins won Friday 5-2 over the Red Sox for their 11th straight victory. They haven’t lost a game since April 21.
