Red Sox make 3 roster moves, option Josh Winckowski to Worcester

BOSTON — The Red Sox made three roster moves between games Monday, including optioning right-hander Josh Winckowski to Triple-A Worcester.

Boston also reinstated right-handed reliever Justin Slaten from the 15-day injured list and appointed lefty reliever Bailey Horn as its 27th man for the second game of the doubleheader.

The Red Sox and Blue Jays will play at 7:10 p.m. here at Fenway Park. Boston lost 4-1 to Toronto in the suspended game from June 26 it resumed earlier Monday.

Winckowski pitched the ninth inning in the first game. He retired all three batters he faced on groundouts. The 26-year-old has struggled overall this season with a 4.37 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and .275 batting average against in 30 outings (59 ⅔ innings).

Slaten missed 41 games on the injured list with right elbow inflammation. The 26-year-old has a 3.38 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and .220 batting average against in 31 outings (42 ⅔ innings) this season as a Rule 5 Draft rookie.

Horn has a 6.48 ERA in 14 outings (16 ⅔ innings) for Boston this season.
