BOSTON — When James Paxton left Sunday’s start after just five pitches due to a right calf strain, it was clear Alex Cora would need to employ an all-hands-on-deck approach for a tired bullpen to get 25 outs. The group — predictably — ran out of gas and the Red Sox suffered their first home sweep since April.
Houston homered three times and put together two straight big innings off relievers Brennan Bernardino and Luis García as the Red Sox fell, 10-2, on a day they were easily handled by righty Hunter Brown. The Red Sox have now lost four in a row and are 61-55. The last time they were swept at home was their first home series of the season against the Orioles from April 9-11.
