Jarren Duran became the 14th Red Sox player ever to homer in an All-Star Game.
Duran, a first-time All-Star, put the American League ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the fifth inning with a two-run homer. The 27-year-old center fielder connected on an 86 mph splitter from Reds’ Hunter Greene and sent it 413 feet to right-center field. It left his bat at 106.8 mph.
It was Duran’s first at-bat. He had just entered the game in the top of the fifth inning as a defensive replacement in center field for Yankees’ Aaron Judge.
He became the first Red Sox player to homer in an All-Star Game since Adrián González in 2011. He also became just the second Red Sox player ever to homer in his first ever All-Star Game plate appearance joining J.D. Drew in 2008.
