Red Sox ‘20 first rounder belts grand slam, on fire since call-up to WooSox

Red Sox prospect Nick Yorke went 1-for-3 with a grand slam, walk and strikeout batting in the cleanup spot in Triple-A Worcester’s 8-5 loss to Rochester on Sunday.

The 2020 Red Sox first round draft pick blasted his grand slam 396 feet to right-center field. It left his bat at 98.2 mph. It came with two outs in the eighth.

It was Yorke’s second homer in as many games. The 22-year-old second baseman is 7-for-19 (.368) with a .478 on-base percentage, .737 slugging percentage, 1.215 OPS, two homers, one triple, six RBIs, five runs, four walks and three strikeouts in five games with Worcester since being promoted from Double-A Portland.

Yorke had posted only a .251/.325/.366/.691 line with four homers, eight doubles, 27 RBIs, 21 runs, 18 walks and 36 strikeouts in 45 games at Portland to begin the season.

~ Red Sox No. 1 prospect Roman Anthony went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, two RBIs and two runs in Double-A Portland’s 9-7 win over Akron. The 20-year-old center fielder is 8-for-19 (.421 batting average) with a .500 on-base percentage, .947 slugging percentage, 1.447 OPS, two homers, four doubles, four RBIs, seven runs, one stolen, one walk and just one strikeout in five games since returning from rib cage irritation.

~ Kristian Campbell went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run in Portland’s win. Campbell, a 21-year-old center fielder/second baseman, is 8-for-23 (.348) with a .444 on-base percentage, .522 slugging percentage, .966 OPS, two doubles, one triple, three RBIs, one steal, four runs, four walks and two strikeouts in five games for Portland since receiving a promotion from High-A Greenville.

~ Bryan Gonzalez blasted a three-run homer in the top of the ninth inning to lead High-A Greenville 10-9 over Hickory.

~ Masataka Yoshida (thumb strain) was 0-for-3 with a walk, one run and two strikeouts in his second rehab game for Worcester.

~ Noah Dean, Boston’s 2022 fifth round pick out of Old Dominion, struck out eight batters in 5 scoreless and hitless innings in Low-A Salem’s 5-2 win over Down East. The 23-year-old lefty has a 4.28 ERA in nine outings (seven starts). Opponents are batting .145 against him. He has 45 strikeouts and 19 walks in 33 ⅔ innings.

~ Nazzan Zanetello, a 2023 second round pick, went 1-for-3 with a homer, walk and two runs for Salem. The 19-year-old shortstop is slashing .224/.348/.431/.779 with three homers and three doubles in 16 games.
