Rain to pass quickly through Mass. on Friday ahead of mild weekend

Rainy conditions across Massachusetts on Friday will give way to seasonable temperatures ahead of the weekend.

The rain is moving from south to north over southern New England, though it’s expected to move through the region pretty quickly — Western Massachusetts should see dry conditions by about mid-morning. Eastern Massachusetts could see conditions clear up in the early afternoon.

Cooler air will move in following the showers, with temperatures peaking in the low 50s. Wind gusts are expected to pick up in the afternoon, with speeds of 30 to 40 mph possible.

The dry conditions from Friday afternoon are set to extend into Saturday. Milder conditions are expected to begin the weekend, with high temperatures well into the 50s.

While much of the state should remain dry, forecasters warned of a slight chance of some showers along the interior on Saturday. A cold front moves in Saturday night, with gusty winds developing behind it.

A cooler airmass will settle in on Sunday, with highs dipping to the 40s.

Another round of precipitation is possible overnight Sunday into Monday, picking up as the day goes on Monday. The precipitation should continue for much of Monday and into Tuesday morning.

There is about a 20% to 60% chance of more than an inch of snow falling north of the Massachusetts Turnpike on Monday, with the highest probabilities in the Berkshires and higher elevations.

But any snow would be fairly short-lived as a warm front moves in mid-morning Monday.
