Worcester police continue to investigate the shooting that left two people injured Sunday night following the Worcester Caribbean American Carnival, and they are seeking the public’s help.
The shooting happened on Boynton Street close to the intersection with Salisbury Street, near Worcester Polytechnic Institute, at around 6 p.m., the department said in a Facebook post on Monday. When shots were heard, a “chaotic scene” erupted when the large crowd attempted to run away.

Police found a 15-year-old and a 23-year-old who were both injured by gunfire but had non-life-threatening injuries, police said. Officers stayed with them until emergency services took them to the hospital. Both people were bystanders unrelated to the shooting, which police believe was caused by a dispute.
The department asked that anyone with information about what happened is asked to send an anonymous text to 274637 with their message, or send an anonymous message at worcesterma.gov/police. Another option is to call the department’s detective bureau at 508-799-8651.
The status of the two shooting victims, including whether either of them has been discharged from the hospital, as of Monday is unknown.
No information about potential suspects has been released by Worcester police. The investigation remains ongoing.
“The event through the day was amazing, it was an amazing celebration of our culture … of the city and our community,” Worcester Caribbean American Carnival Association President Jennifer Gaskin told MassLive. “We were disappointed and disheartened and saddened by the way that we had to end the event.”
