Police rescued an injured bald eagle after it was found injured on I-495 in Merrimac Friday morning, according to police
Merrimac Animal Control and Massachusetts State Police responded to the scene shortly after 11 a.m. after multiple callers reported that the bald eagle was lying in the median of I-495 north, Merrimac police said in a press release. Animal Control Officer Brad DiCenzo soon secured the eagle and took it to the Merrimac Police Department.
The eagle was later transferred to a wildlife rehabilitation center for evaluation and treatment, police said. It was found to have a fractured left femur that requires surgery.
“As long as it continues to show signs of strength and stability, the surgery is scheduled to take place next week,” police wrote in the release.
