Police: Man charged with animal cruelty, dealing drugs, firearm offenses

WESTFIELD – After authorities from several law enforcement agencies arrested a man wanted on several outstanding fugitive warrants at an apartment on East Barlett Street, they discovered three dogs suffering from neglect, three handguns and a cache of cocaine, according to court records.

Pedro J. Deleon Jr., 31, of Springfield, was discovered hiding under a bed after authorities executed a search warrant at the East Bartlett Street apartment, according to court documents.

When officers from four federal, state and local law enforcement agencies arrived at the apartment on Oct. 22 to execute the warrant on Deleon, they were met at the door by a woman who said he wasn’t there, and was generally uncooperative, according to a report filed with the court by a State Police trooper involved in the arrest.
