Police increase presence at these Mass. schools after prank calls, police say

Students from two West Bridgewater elementary schools made prank phone calls threatening violence toward a school, West Bridgewaer Police Chief Timothy Nixon announced.

At around 3:10 p.m. on Monday, students from Howard and Spring Street elementary schools made phone calls to local businesses, the chief said in a statement.

In these calls, the students said they were present at a school shooting and played the sounds of gunfire using an app, the statement read. They then made a threat of violence toward a school.

West Bridgewater Public Schools officials notified the school resource officer, who then informed the police department, Nixon said. Officers investigated, interviewing students on the bus and later at home with the students’ parents.

Based on these interviews, police deemed that these threats were not credible, Nixon said.

For the safety of students, West Bridgewater police will have an increased presence at the schools on Tuesday, police said.
