SOUTHWICK – After a spirited debate on whether the proposed Dollar General store fits the “character” of the surrounding neighborhood on College Highway, a majority of the Planning Board members voted in favor of the proposal, but didn’t reach the necessary supermajority.
The vote at Tuesday’s meeting was 3-2 in favor, but would have required 4 positive votes to pass.
“My opinion hasn’t changed from the beginning,” said Planning Board Chair Michael Doherty, one of the two “no” votes. “I see that area of College Highway as different in character until you get to Tannery [Road].”
