The pilot of a plane that crashed into the ocean off Hampton Beach in New Hampshire on Saturday was rescued by lifeguards, news outlets reported.
The small plane, a single-engine Piper PA-18, crashed into the ocean off the coast of the New Hampshire beach around noon Saturday while towing a banner. Only the pilot was on board, the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement sent to MassLive.
Lifeguards rescued the pilot, who did not suffer any injuries, Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno told WCVB.
“Box 7 transmitted for a report of an aircraft into the water,” Hampton Fire Rescue wrote in a social media post. “All companies working.”
Video obtained by Boston 25 News showed people near the shore of the beach looking at the tail of the plane and lifeguards swimming in the ocean to help rescue the pilot. Several individuals dragged the aircraft out of the water and across the sand along the shoreline, according to WCVB.
Hampton police officers and firefighters as well as members of the United States Coast Guard and the New Hampshire Marine Patrol Unit responded to the scene of the crash, WCVB reported.

The FAA said it and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB is expected to be in charge of the investigation and provide any updates.
