Peter Pan Bus Lines sued over purported ‘junk fees’

SPRINGFIELD — An $11 Peter Pan Bus Lines ticket from New York City to Philadelphia ended up costing a Queens man $22 back in February.

Now he’s one of two named plaintiffs suing Springfield-based Peter Pan, saying what the suit calls “junk fees” — itemized as reservations, fuel, departure, transactions or terminals, and tacked on late in the online booking process — falsely represent the true cost of travel.

“Of course, one who rides a motorcoach needs a reservation, a terminal for arrival and departure, and there must be fuel to power the motorcoach,” the suit filed in September in the U.S. District Court in Springfield reads. “These are simply a part of the process of riding a bus.”
