Chicopee police found one person dead inside a home Sunday evening after responding to a report of a disturbance and are now investigating how they died, the department said.
Chicopee police first reported the investigation into the Farmington Street home on Facebook around 6:50 p.m., writing that lower James Street was closed as a result. Then, around 10:30 p.m., the police department wrote that officers had responded to the home for a report of a disturbance but learned that a gun may have gone off while they were responding.
In response, Chicopee police called in their crisis negotiations team and Massachusetts State Police, the department said. But after failing to make contact with the resident several times, officers decided to enter the home.
The officers found one person dead inside the home, Chicopee police said. State and local police and the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office are investigating what caused the person’s death.
There was no threat to the public during the investigation, Chicopee police said. State police and the district attorney’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the incident Monday morning.
No further information about the incident has been released.
