It didn’t take long for social media to speculate Bill Belichick being the new coach of the New York Jets after the team suddenly fired Robert Saleh. But for Julian Edelman, it’s something he can’t envision his former coach doing — especially after Belichick coached the New England Patriots for 24 seasons.
“I could never see (Belichick or Mike Vrabel coaching the Jets). We never liked the Jets,” Edelman said during a recent appearance on “The Herd With Colin Cowherd.” “It was always exactly what you said. Now, they did have a few teams with Rex (Ryan) that we were 14-2, smoked them three weeks before, go to the division round, they smoked us. They beat us a couple times like that. That was always a hiccup. That was always a blip on the radar that was unpredictable.
“I can’t even come up with a thought because I’m thinking about if Vrabel or Bill went to the Jets,” he continued. “It just doesn’t feel right.”

Belichick was the Jets defensive coordinator for three seasons and, for a very short stint, was their coach in 2000. But he quickly resigned to become the coach of the Patriots. Belichick never coached a game for the Jets.
And while the legendary coach has praised Jets players like C.J. Mosley and Aaron Rodgers in the past, it would be a surprise for Belichick to go to the team he burned over 20 years ago, especially after he revealed he had issues with Woody Johnson — who was trying to buy the team when Belichick resigned — in “The Two Bills” documentary. Belichick recently called out the Jets amid Sam Darnold’s success with the Minnesota Vikings, too.
For now, Belichick will remain in the media with his several gigs.
