FOXBOROUGH – With just under five minutes to go in the first quarter, all seemed right with the Patriots.
They had just marched 60 yards down the field for a touchdown. The drive culminated with Jacoby Brissett throwing a 5-yard dart to Ja’Lynn Polk in the end zone for the rookie’s first NFL touchdown.
The Patriots would go on to lose to the Seahawks 23-20 in overtime, but it was one of the brighter moments in the game.
“It felt pretty cool. It was a cool experience in Gillette,” Polk said of his TD catch. “But you know, I’m not too much worried about it. We didn’t get the win.”
Polk broke past Seahawks safety Julian Love and Brissett hit him in stride.
“It was just execution,” Polk said. “Everyone doing their job and finding a way to get open.”
Polk had one catch for six yards in the Week 1 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He finished with two catches for 12 yards and the touchdown in the loss to the Seahawks.
KJ Osborn was the only other receiver with a catch in the game. Receivers in general were only targeted five times.
“We put in the game plan, we just try to go out and execute,” Polk said when asked about the lack of targets. “Whatever AVP (Alex Van Pelt) calls, we just try to have a high execution rate.”
