Patriots request to interview veteran OC

The Patriots search for a new offensive coordinator is underway.

After interviewing Thomas Brown this week, the Patriots have requested permission to interview Los Angeles Chargers pass game coordinator Marcus Brady, according to ESPN.

Brady, 45, joined Jim Harbaugh’s staff this season after working in Philadelphia as an offensive assistant. A former quarterback at Cal State Northridge, Brady played in the CFL for the Toronto Argonauts, Hamilton Tiger-Cats, and Montreal Alouettes.

Brady got into coaching in the CFL where he worked with receivers in Montreal before working as the Allottees offensive coordinator in 2012. He was also the Toronto Argonauts offensive coordinator from 2013-2017.

Brady broke into the NFL coaching world in 2018 when he joined Frank Reich’s staff in Indianapolis as an assistant quarterbacks coach. He was promoted to quarterbacks coach the next season. In 2021, Brady replaced Nick Sirianni as the Colts offensive coordinator and held that position for two seasons.

Under Brady, the Colts offense finished ninth in the NFL in scoring in 2021 and 16th in total offense. That team, with quarterback Carson Wentz, went 9-8. In 2022, Indianapolis finished 30th in scoring and 27th in total offense. That team started three different quarterbacks – Matt Ryan, Sam Ehlinger, and Nick Foles.

After being fired by the Colts, Brady rejoined Sirianni in Philadelphia. This year marked his first in Los Angeles, where he’s worked with Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert.
