Parts of Mass. could see up to 5 inches of snow Thursday. Here’s where

Amid a cold snap that has seen wind chills fall below zero across Massachusetts, some parts of the state could see accumulating snow Thursday night, National Weather Service forecasters say.

But that snowfall is expected to be limited to Cape Cod and the Islands, with the highest accumulations — between 2 and 5 inches — to fall on Nantucket. Martha’s Vineyard and the Cape should see about 1 to 3 inches. Some snowfall is also possible along the very immediate South Coast and parts of Plymouth County.

Forecasters have set down a Winter Weather Advisory for Nantucket, though if the storm system shifts northwest, that advisory could extend to the Cape and Martha’s Vineyard. But if the system shifts to the southeast, snowfall accumulations could fall to as low as a coating on Cape Cod and 2 inches on Nantucket.

A National Weather Service map shows parts of the Berkshires could see less than an inch of snow.

“Across the rest of the region expect generally dry weather to persist with just increasing clouds during the day Thursday and persisting into Thursday night,” forecasters wrote.

High temperatures Thursday will mainly be in the upper 20s to low 30s.
