Opportunities opening as Southwick’s top police officers climb career ladder

SOUTHWICK — Now that Rhett Bannish has inked his contract as the town’s new police chief, the Select Board will need to fill his former position of lieutenant, and once that’s done, will also need to appoint at least two new sergeants.

When establishing the criteria to apply for the lieutenant’s position, the Select Board, acting in its capacity as the Police Commission, recently specified that only currently employed Southwick sergeants could apply for the opening.

According to the internal posting, candidates must have at least eight years of experience in law enforcement, and three years of supervisory experience.
