No. 2 Westfield sweeps past No. 3 Minnechaug, 4-2, into PVIAC Class A boys ice hockey finals

WEST SPRINGFIELD – It was not easy, but the Westfield High School hockey team beat Minnechaug for the second time in seven days and the third time this season, charming their way to a championship berth.

Joe Maffia and Nick LaComb scored two goals apiece to lead No. 2 Westfield past No. 3 Minnechaug, 4-2, in the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class A boys ice hockey semifinals Wednesday night at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield.

“We knew it was going to be a close game,” Westfield boys ice hockey coach Dominic Puntillo said. “[Minnechaug has] a good coach, good offensive skill passing the puck. It was maybe in our ‘D’ zone more than we wanted, but I’m glad [we] pulled it out.”
