No. 2 Westfield hockey overcomes numbers game, beats No. 1 Greenfield, 7-3, for WMASS Class A championship

WEST SPRINGFIELD – The Westfield High School boys ice hockey team fielded one of its smallest squads in decades, but their collective hearts beat louder and stronger than ever before as one.

Nick LaComb scored two goals early, Cody Bard buried two goals late, and Joe Maffia made his usual presence felt throughout, finishing with two goals and four assists as No. 2 Westfield upended top-seeded Greenfield, 7-3, in the Pioneer Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference Class A Boys Ice Hockey championship Saturday at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield.
