NFL Trade Rumors: Patriots rival emerges as Davante Adams frontrunner, but there’s a catch

Davante Adams wants to be traded, and reportedly wants to reunite with Aaron Rodgers on the New York Jets. However, his team may not have to listen to his demands.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the star receiver informed the Las Vegas Raiders that he prefers to be traded. “Prefers” is a key word there. Adams is not demanding a trade, as is often the case with players who are unhappy with their current situation.

Then there’s the issue of Adams’ destination. The 31-year-old receiver may want to end up in New York. But the Raiders don’t necessarily need to adhere to his desires there.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that the Raiders are honoring the trade request, but aren’t necessarily letting him pick exactly where he wants to go.

The Jets, who could use an immediate boost for their offense, appear to be the frontrunner. However, Rapoport also notes that the Saints, Steelers, Ravens, Bills and Cowboys are also in the mix. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Saints are one of the stronger contenders, given that they have Adams’ former teammate Derek Carr at quarterback.

It should be little surprise to see several contenders interested in acquiring Adams. A six-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro selection, Adams is one of the best receivers of his generation.

So far in 2024, Adams has caught 18 passes for 208 yards and a touchdown. He’s currently dealing with a hamstring injury that forced him to miss last week’s game against the Browns and may take him out of Sunday’s game against the Broncos.

According to Rapoport, any official trade talks will likely have to wait until Adams is back on the field, which is expected to be next week.
