Ezekiel Elliott showed that he could still play during his time with the New England Patriots. Apparently, it was enough for the Dallas Cowboys to come calling to bring him home.
According to NFL Network, the Cowboys have agreed to a deal to bring Elliott back into the fold down in Dallas.
A three-time Pro Bowler and two-time rushing champ, Elliott quickly rose to stardom in Dallas after the team drafted him in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent the 2023 season in New England playing alongside Rhamondre Stevenson.

Elliott’s seven-year run with the Cowboys came to an end after 2022, leading to him landing in New England. With the Patriots, Elliott ran for 642 yards and also caught 313 passes for 313 yards. The numbers weren’t mindblowing, but came on a Patriots offense where there wasn’t much easy yardage. More than anything, Elliott showed he could still be productive in the NFL.
The Cowboys initially parted ways with Elliott to make way for former backup Tony Pollard to take the lead role in the offense. But with Pollard heading to Tennessee this offseason, the Cowboys were in need of running back help.
At age 28, Elliott is on the older side for a running back, especially considering the heavy workload he’s had in the NFL. The Cowboys may still be in the market for more help in the backfield.
As for the Patriots, the team is set for Stevenson to return as the lead running back. Free-agent signing Antonio Gibson appears set to take on the role of the veteran complementary back that Elliott filled last season.
