NFL wide receiver Randall Cobb and his family say they are safe — but shaken and displaced — after a fire at their Nashville home earlier this week.
The 33-year-old Cobb, who played for the Jets last season and is currently a free agent, posted a statement on Instagram along with his wife Aiyda. The Cobbs said that the most important thing was that they got out of the house safely — and were “able to get back in and get our dog, Louie.”
“We are lucky to be alive,” the Cobb family wrote. “The Tesla charger caught on fire in the garage late last night and quickly spread. We got out of the house with nothing but the clothes on our back and no shoes on our feet.”

In the statement, the Cobbs thanked the Nashville Fire Department for their swift response and said that close friends have given them “a temporary roof over our heads” in the fallout of the fire.
The Cobbs’ post on Instagram features footage of the damage caused by the fire, including multiple charred vehicles in their garage. The family also posted a picture of themselves together in a bed, noting that the most important thing is that they made it out.
“I can’t get the image of the brave firefighter getting into position out of my head; he didn’t even have water to shoot yet. I truly thought the cars were going to explode and that we would lose him in this tragedy,” the family wrote. “He is a true hero. Unfortunately we don’t know how much, if anything, will be salvageable, but this has been a reminder that nothing is more important than the health of our family.”
Cobb, who is a Tennessee native, has played 13 seasons in the NFL. The veteran receiver is best known for his time with the Packers. Cobb played a total of 10 seasons in Green Bay across two stints, making a Pro Bowl in 2014.
