New Westfield police chief will be chosen on Oct. 27

WESTFIELD – The Police Commission unanimously approved holding interviews and naming a new chief for the department on Oct. 27 during a special meeting it held on Wednesday.

“I think it sounds smooth gentlemen. We’ll get this done. We owe it to everyone to get it done,” Commissioner Peter Velis said after he and Commissioners Richard Sypek and James Irwin finalized the details of the process of interviewing and appointing someone to replace current chief Lawrence Valliere.

During the commission’s meeting last week, Sypek said he was waiting on a series of questions being prepared by the Cape Cod-based Public Safety Consultants that the commissioners will ask the three prospective candidates during the interviews for the position.
