New restaurant seeks to bring the Mediterranean coast to downtown Worcester

A new restaurant is looking to bring the cuisine of the Mediterranean coast to the bottom of Worcester’s Glass Tower on Main Street.

Vivienne, a coastal Mediterranean restaurant, is the newest venture of Worcester’s Niche Hospitality Group.

The restaurant will be located at the base of the Glass Tower on 446 Main St. and is expected to open in August, according to Michael Covino, the president of Niche Hospitality Group.

Covino told MassLive the restaurant will replace an old bank. He said that his company has been working with the owners of the Glass Tower, the Boston-based Synergy Investments, on the project.

The name of the restaurant, Vivienne, means life or lively, according to Covino.

“We’re giving new life and making this space lively,” Covino said. “Instead of being a bank like it’s been since pretty much its inception in the 70s, it is now a restaurant.”

Covino said that the concept of Vivienne is to bring an upscale dining restaurant to the area.

He told MassLive that Niche Hospitality Group is working with Taniya Nayak Design on the project.

Taniya Nayak Design has been involved in residential and commercial projects, including Door No. 7 in Wellesley, Brick & Ash in Newburyport, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House in Winter Park, Fla., Rochester, Minn., and Worcester.

“We’ve been working together collaboratively to design Vivienne to be this coastal Mediterranean concept,” Covino said. ”We’re transforming this 1970s glass structure into a place that would feel like it’s on the south of France or the Italian Riviera.”

In terms of what will be on the menu, Covino didn’t provide any specific dishes but said they are taking inspiration and influence from coastal cuisine along countries that border the Mediterranean, such as Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Turkey, and Morocco.

“We can take influence whether it’s by the seasonings that they use or the oils that they use or something that they do like salads or spreads,” Covino said. “They could also be inland too.”

The restaurant’s beverage program will feature Italian and French wines and cocktails, according to Covino.

The Niche Hospitality Group owns several restaurants in Worcester, including The Fix Burger Bar, Mezcal Tequila Cantina, and Bocado Tapas Wine Bar, which was named as a top restaurant in 2025 by USA Today.

Covino told MassLive he plans to open another restaurant this summer, known as the Green Island Oyster Bar, which will be located at 90 Harding St.
