Gep Repasky, one of the singers for indie rock band Lunar Vacation, said one of her favorite shows she ever played was at Brighton Music Hall in Boston in 2022.
“It was so fun,” she told MassLive. “Everyone there was so nice and we had just really good energy in the room.”
However, the last time the band was in Boston, Repasky said it was snowing and claimed that the band “definitely slipped” while walking around the city.
This time around, the singer hopes no one will take a tumble — especially on stage — when Lunar Vacation opens up for Vacations at Royale on Wednesday, July 31.
“We’ve been in album mode, for the past few months,” Repasky said. “So, I think we’re all ready to switch gears.”
Lunar Vacation announced in June that the band’s sophomore album “Everything Matters, Everything’s Fire” will be released on Sept. 13.
The lead single off the upcoming album, “Set the Stage,” has already been released along with its accompanying music video.
Lunar Vacation plans on playing more tracks from the album on tour, two that won’t drop until “Everything Matters, Everything’s Fire” is released.
The band has been playing some of these songs on tour for more than a year, which led them to put the tracks on the new album.
“We were making the record with the intention of playing it together live. So I think we have a lot of exciting energy going into playing these new songs just because they all feel really natural to us,” guitarist Maggie Geeslin said.
From testing the songs out on the road, Geeslin said Lunar Vacation excels at improvising and switching up the band’s setlist instead of sticking to the same routine.
“We definitely have been putting in a lot of focus and energy towards crafting a good set that just feels like it has a good ebb and flow,” she said. “It just makes it more of a fluid experience on tour.”
Hailing from Decatur, Georgia, Lunar Vacation was formed in 2016 after each of the five members met in high school.
The five-piece band consists of Repasky on vocals and guitar, Geeslin on vocals and guitar, Matteo DeLurgio on keyboard, Connor Dowd on drums, and Ben Wulkan on bass.
Lunar Vacation released their first extended play “Swell” in 2017 and their second EP “Artifical Flavors” in 2018. In 2021, the band released their debut album “Inside Every Fig Is A Dead Wasp.”
While the band’s last record “happily bathed in the waters of indie pop, their latest effort is exploratory, a product of many hours shared experimenting in a living room together,” Lunar Vacation’s biography reads.
Drawing inspiration from such artists as Yo La Tengo and Björk, Lunar Vacation’s new album will explore the group’s strong bonds that Repasky mostly credits to them constantly being “in the same small four walls” both during and after the tour.
“We all know each other super well to where we can all help each other out in certain ways,” she said of the band that lives together in their Georgia apartment. “When we come home, we are all still together and sharing.”
