New England WizardFest bringing ‘Harry Potter’ actors to Massachusetts

“Harry Potter” fans will soon have the chance to ask all their Quidditch questions to Sean Biggerstaff, the actor who played Oliver Wood — just don’t ask him about what happened during Wood’s first Quidditch match.

The New England WizardFest and Magic Convention is coming to the Boxboro Regency Hotel in Boxborough on Aug. 25-27.

“Come see your favorite magical celebrities, vendors, musicians, and cosplay events, all weekend long,” the website states.

Other celebrities in attendance will include, Ellie Darcey-Alden, who played young Lily Evans in “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2,” Chris Rankin, who played Percy Weasley in the Harry Potter series and Jim Tavaré, who played Tom, the owner of the Leaky Cauldron, in the “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”

The celebrities will be signing autographs and offering selfie photo opportunities for a fee.

Attendees can also go to class.

Potions, charms and astronomy are all being offered during the event. There is also a sorting ceremony and you’ll be taking your OWLS Exam.

The Wizard’s Ball will be Saturday.

“The Wizards Ball is a fancy dress party – no jeans or sneakers allowed – where guests don their fanciest Wizard/Witch/cosplay-inspired attire to celebrate The Magic from folklore, television, literature and film,” the website states. “This is a safe place for all personality types. It’s very important to us that Everyone feels comfortable here.”

New England WizardFest is not associated with the “Harry Potter” author, J.K. Rowling. In 2022, organizers told MassLive they find her transphobic comments “disturbing and do not support her views.”

“It has been a very tough time for the fandom, but we are strong, just like Harry,” organizers said. “Guests of New England Wizardfest can rest assured that all are welcome at our events.”

But all of this isn’t limited to “Harry Potter” fans.

The event will also highlight the “Wizard of Oz,” “Lord of the Rings,” Marvel’s “Doctor Strange,” Merlin the Magician and overall magic.

“Imagine a place where a car can fly over yellow bricks. Where Witches in conical hats cast Charms and Enchantments, Wizards play chess with Knights in shining armour and Magicians make the impossible Possible,” the website reads. “A Magical place where imagination becomes Your Reality.”
