New England could see another day of ‘milky haze’ — but it’s not from clouds

It might appear to be cloudy in New England Monday but it’s actually a “milky haze” from wildfires, the National Weather Service said.

The weather service shared a photo from Springfield Sunday showing the hazy day.

“Stark contrast in sky color between Springfield, MA and Smithfield, RI,” the weather service wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Sunday. “The thickest smoke will continue to shift SE today, allowing those beautiful blue hues to expand across southern New England.”

The photo of Rhode Island was a clear, sunny day.

The weather service said there will be “another day of milky haze across southern New England” due to the wildfire smoke on Monday.

Still, air quality remains between moderate and good throughout the state.

Western and Central Massachusetts has good air quality. While areas like Boston and Cape Cod have “moderate” air quality.

Overall, the day is expect to be sunny and a high of around 72 degrees.
