Neighbor rescues minors from Mass. pond after canoe flips over

A neighbor rescued two minors from an Ipswich pond Saturday after their canoe flipped over.

Ipswich police and firefighters responded to Hood Pond near Boxford Road around noon for a report that two minors were yelling for help after their canoe flipped over, police said in a press release. While they were responding, a neighbor from across the street heard the minors and set out his canoe to save them.

While he and another neighbor boated to where the minors were, his wife kept the dispatcher updated on their progress, police said. The man paddled approximately 100 yards out and was able to bring the minors back to shore.
