Nathan Hickey, Chase Meidroth lead WooSox past Charlotte Knights

The Worcester Red Sox defeated the Charlotte Knights on the road, 13-4, on Friday.

Nathan Hickey went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and five RBI for Worcester, while Chase Meidroth went 3-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI. Brian Van Belle got the win on the mound, pitching three innings and giving up two hits.

Charlotte grabbed the lead in the bottom of the second inning with a Zach DeLoach double to right field, bringing Bryan Ramos home. The Red Sox responded during the next inning with a Nathan Hickey single to right field that brought Meidroth home.

The Knights jumped back ahead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Colson Montgomery singled on a soft line drive to left fielder Mark Contreras that brought Braden Shewmake and Carlos Pérez home to make it 3-1.

Worcester’s Bobby Dalbec hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to tie the game again.

From there, the Red Sox opened up the game offensively. In the top of the eighth inning, Meidroth brought two runs across with a double, Nick Sogard brought in another with a double, Tyler Heineman brought in another by working a walk with the bases loaded and Niko Kavadas brought in two runs with a bases loaded single that brought home Hickey and Eddy Alvarez.

Hickey hit a grand slam in the ninth inning that slammed the door on Charlotte.

Worcester plays Charlotte again on the road on Saturday.
