Motorcycle driver crashes into car during police pursuit

A motorcycle driver crashed into another car and then fled on foot during a police pursuit in Hopkinton Wednesday.

At about 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8, Hopkinton police saw a black motorcycle with one exhaust pipe that officials had been attempting to stop for the last several months. Officers first tried to stop the motorcycle on Wednesday near 85 Main St. but lost sight of the motorcycle.

Officers saw the motorcycle again on Holt Street and began pursuing it.

After about two miles, police said, the motorcycle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Ash Street and Thayer Heights Road. The motorcycle crashed onto its side and the driver began running.

Neither the motorcycle driver or the driver of the other car were injured, police said.

Police were able to arrest the motorcycle driver in a yard on Ash Street. Police said he had a high-capacity magazine when he was arrested.

Robert Wills, 28, of Hopkinton, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, uninsured motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, speeding, number plate missing and possession of a large capacity feeding device.

“I would like to commend our officers for their use of caution during this incident given the time of day and extra traffic in the area,” said Acting Chief Scott van Raalten. “The officers displayed great awareness and were able to safely take the suspect into custody.”
