The mother of three of the girls who were injured during a stabbing at a Braintree movie theater Saturday evening is thanking the first responders and doctors who helped her daughters.
Lisa Dembowski’s daughters were among the four girls stabbed by a man inside a theater at AMC’s Braintree location in an unprovoked attack. Martha’s Vineyard resident Jared Ravizza, 26, is now being investigated as a suspect in the stabbing after being arrested in connection with a stabbing at a Plymouth McDonald’s that happened shortly after Dembowksi’s daughters were attacked.
Dembow took to Facebook Monday morning to thank the police officers and firefighters who responded to the stabbing, saying that they calmed both her daughters and herself.
“Our first responders are incredible people,” she wrote.
Dembowski also thanked the medical team that took care of her daughters at Boston Medical Center after they were taken there by ambulance. They “went above and beyond to not only make sure [her daughters] were physically OK but made them feel safe.”
“They see it all and have to be exhausted and yet were at the ready for whatever we needed. Our friends and family, the community — thank you,” she wrote.
Dembowski recounted what happened during the stabbing to WCVB on Sunday, explaining that three of the girls — aged 9 to 17 — were her daughters, and the fourth was their friend. They were the only people in the theater when a man came up behind them and stabbed them — laughing the whole time.
The suspect stabbed Dembowski’s oldest daughter in the back, stabbed another of her daughters in the chest and stabbed the third in the arm, she told WCVB. Braintree police said previously that all the girls’ wounds were non-life-threatening, but the mother said her children are shaken and never want to go to the movies again.
“Kids are resilient, but I think they are terrified that they could just go to a movie on a Saturday night and this could happen,” she said. “Someone could just walk into a movie theater and do this with no knowledge of who they were.”
AMC said in a statement to WCVB that it would be adding additional security at the theater. McDonald’s issued a statement on the Plymouth stabbing to MassLive Monday night.
“We are shocked and devastated by this senseless act of violence. The safety of our crew and customers is always our top priority. We are grateful to law enforcement for their quick response in protecting our Cape Cod communities and will continue to assist them in their investigation,” the restaurant chain said.
