More than 6,000 pounds of jerky that wasn’t inspected recalled by USDA

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is recalling more than 6,000 pounds of jerky because it was not properly inspected.

The roughly 6,229 pounds of jerky products were produced by Alabama-based company Hickory Hollow Jerky, the USDA said in a release Friday.

The jerky products, which were produced between Jan. 19 and Aug. 21, did not undergo a federal inspection by two different owners.

The company switched owners in June, but the products remained the same and were released with the USDA mark of inspection when they were in fact not inspected.

The jerky products were shipped to stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and Oklahoma. They were also sold online, according to the USDA.

The recalled products have the establishment number “EST. NO. 34550” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The full list of recalled products is as follows:

  • Original Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Jamaican Jerked Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Hot Shot Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Peppered Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Jalapeno Original Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Sweet Heat BBQ Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Macho Nacho Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Honey Mustard Bacon Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky
  • Honey Original Hickory Hollow Beef Jerky

While no illnesses have been reported, anyone who bought the jerky should throw it away or return it, the USDA said.

Those concerned about a health reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

Anyone who bought the jerky and has questions about the recall can contact Charles O’Neill, current co-owner of Hickory Hollow Jerky, at 262-745-5103 or at HickoryHollowBeefJerky@gmail.com.

Consumers can also contact Russ Robbins, previous owner of Hickory Hollow Jerky, at 334-695-5238 or at hhjerky@gmail.com.
