Months after rosy financial outlook, Hampshire College cuts staff benefits

Almost three months ago, Hampshire College president Ed Wingenbach said the institution was rebounding after being faced with closure in 2019 due to financial difficulties.

But now the college, based in Amherst, appears to be back in financial hot water, temporarily suspending staff retirement contributions and having senior leadership take a year-long pay cut to make up for low enrollment numbers and FAFSA delays, according a college spokesperson.
