MLB Notebook: Assessing Red Sox options among available top starters

Juan Soto may be that (not so) obscure object of desire for a handful of major league teams, the Red Sox included. But as welcome as Soto would be, he wouldn’t solve the Red Sox’ obvious need for a top starting pitcher.

That remains the Sox’ primary need, without which the promise of honest-to-goodness contention won’t be fulfilled. The Red Sox have the makings of a decent rotation with returnees Tanner Houck, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford and a healthy Lucas Giolito.
