A Middleton, New Hampshire, man died on Sunday from injuries he received in an ATV crash on John Jones Road, the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department said on Monday.
Edward Roberge, 54, was pinned under an ATV’s handlebars when New Hampshire State Police dispatchers notified Fish and Game of the crash at around 9 a.m., the department said in a statement. Conservation officers and Milton police responded and found Roberge.
He was dead where officers found him, the department said.
Roberge was riding along on John Jones Road, a class IV road which is “discontinued subject to gates and bars, as well as those that have ‘not been maintained and repaired by the town in suitable condition for travel’ for five successive years or more,” according to Farmington’s Public Works Department. Such roads are seen with signs that read: “Class 6 road not maintained by town beyond this point pass at own risk.”
Investigators believe something caused Roberge to swerve and roll his ATV, the department said, adding that contributing factors to his death include operator error and a lack of protective equipment.
“Always ride within your limits and wear the proper protective equipment,” the department concluded.
