Massachusetts weather: Beware of slick roads during the morning commute Tuesday

The National Weather Service is warning Massachusetts drivers to drive cautiously during their morning commute Tuesday.

In the wake of a snowstorm that brought more than 8 inches to some areas of the state on Sunday and Monday, light snow is still falling. The weather service said the snow should peter out by 9 a.m., but that road conditions may still be treacherous.

“Given temperatures hovering around freezing, be sure to take it slow if you encounter any slick roads,” the weather service wrote on social media Tuesday morning.

Tuesday’s highs are predicted to only reach the low 30s and high 20s, but the snow should give way to a warmer week, according to the weather service. Temperatures are expected to climb steadily through Thursday and peak in the mid 40s before returning to more seasonal highs in the mid 30s over the weekend.

The weather service predicts that lows overnight will increase throughout the week as well, beginning in the low 20s Tuesday night and reaching the low 30s by Thursday night. By the weekend, overnight lows are expected to dip back into the low 20s and upper teens.

Skies are predicted to be mostly cloudy this week, with a slight chance of rain later on Thursday, according to the weather service. By Saturday, Massachusetts should be experiencing, clear, sunny weather amid the colder temperatures.

As of Tuesday, no major bouts of precipitation are on the horizon for the state.
