
A Massachusetts woman who was killed in a crash involving a UPS tractor-trailer in Connecticut earlier this month is being remembered by her friends and family.
Soutbridge resident Gennesse Marie Alicea, 39, was killed in Wilmington on Nov. 20, Connecticut State Police said previously. A Holland man was driving a Hyundai Elantra on I-84 when the car hit the rear bumper of a UPS tractor-trailer as he tried to switch lanes and spun out.
Alicea was a passenger in the car and was declared dead at the scene, state police said. The Holland man was taken to Hartford Hospital, and the UPS tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.
Alicea was born in Southbridge on June 29, 1985, according to her obituary. She graduated from Southbridge High School and was a member of St. Mary’s Church.
Alicea worked as a counselor for social services for many years, according to her obituary. She leaves behind her daughter, husband, parents, two brothers, sister and many other beloved relatives and friends.
Calling hours for Alicea are set to take place on Sunday, Nov. 24 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Sansoucy Funeral Home in Southbridge, according to her obituary. A funeral Mass will be the next day at 10 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Southbridge.
