Mass. woman dies after truck crossed median, crashed into other cars, police say

A Brimfield woman died after the pickup truck she was riding in crossed a median on the F.E. Everett Turnpike in New Hampshire and crashed into multiple other vehicles, New Hampshire State Police said.

Wanda Navarro, 63, was taken to Elliot Hospital Sunday where she was pronounced dead.

The crash happened around 12:55 p.m. Sunday on the northbound side of the turnpike near Exit 12.

Troopers believe the driver of a white Dodge Ram pickup was originally traveling southbound. But “for reasons that remain under investigation,” the pickup truck “suddenly” crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes of the turnpike, State Police said. The truck crashed into two other vehicles, including a brown GMC Sierra pickup and a white Nissan Versa sedan.

The driver of the Dodge was identified by State Police as James Navarro, 69, of Brimfield. He was taken by ambulance to be evaluated for minor injuries. A passenger in the GMC Sierra was also taken to the hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

All northbound lanes and the left lane on the southbound side were closed for about three hours after the crash.

The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed as of Sunday night. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Trooper Abigail Wells at (603) 223-4381 or Abigail.A.Wells@dos.nh.gov.
