Massachusetts is set to dodge a system of low pressure that could have dumped heavy snow on the state on Saturday. But National Weather Service forecasters say some snow will still fall in the Bay State, thanks to a different weather system.
Residents can expect a “quick dusting” of about an inch of snow, with some areas seeing up to 2 inches. That’s thanks to what forecasters described as northern stream energy.
“The storm will not have enough time to throw heavy snow through the coastal Northeast,“ AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski wrote. ”Instead, precipitation will fall up to a couple of hundred miles at sea.”
Saturday will be “noticeably less windy” than the rest of the week, forecasters said, referencing the gusting winds that have led to bitter cold throughout the state during the work week. High temperatures on Saturday will be seasonable, in the low to mid 30s, forecasters wrote.
The chance for snowfall in Boston and Worcester on Saturday is around 50% during the day, with chances dipping to 20% in the evening. Springfield is even less likely to see snow, with a roughly 30% chance of precipitation. Pittsfield also has a less than 50% chance of seeing precipitation Saturday.
The chances on Cape Cod are roughly the same as in Boston: 50% during the day.
