
Massachusetts is poised to enjoy one final day of sun and warmth this weekend before a shift brings rain and cooler conditions to start the new week.
Across the state, Sunday is expected to have a high of around 70 degrees under mostly sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.
The Cape and Islands will be the coolest spot during the day, hitting a high near 65 degrees with a light south wind that will pick up during the morning.
Inland from Boston to Worcester and west to Springfield and the Berkshires, Sunday will be sunny with highs hitting the 70-degree mark.
Boston and Worcester will feel light south and southwestern breezes of 5 to 10 mph. However, for Springfield and the Berkshires, southerly winds will be a bit more brisk, gusting up to 21 to 24 mph.
As the sun sets, the National Weather Service says to expect a shift in temperatures and dry conditions.
The first sprinkles will likely dust the Berkshires as early as 2 a.m. Monday morning. The chance of showers is highest at 70% with gusts up to 26 mph with clouds and a low of 52 degrees.
By 3 a.m. on Monday, the western and central parts of the state get a firmer rain event as Springfield sees its chance of showers increase to 60%, bringing a low of 56 degrees and gusty, southeast winds up to 24 mph, along with patchy fog developing after 4 a.m.
Worcester follows shortly after, with showers likely after 4 a.m. on Monday, a 60% chance of rain and gusts up to 21 mph.
The Cape, Islands and Boston have a 30% chance of showers early Monday morning.
The Cape and Islands are expected to have showers after 5 a.m. on Monday while Boston can expect rain after 2 a.m.
