Mass. weather: Snow squalls could cause dangerous conditions

Overnight precipitation left several inches of snow across Massachusetts, and it was still coming down in some areas on Thursday morning.

A winter weather advisory remains in place until 1 p.m. Thursday for the eastern slopes of the Berkshires in Franklin and Hampshire Counties, southeastern Massachusetts, Worcester County and northwest Middlesex County, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected to stop around 10 a.m. in eastern Massachusetts, but the National Weather Service cautions that snow squalls could crop up throughout the day. Squalls are periods of intense snowfall that could reduce visibility and potentially cause “whiteout” conditions.

Boston and Cape Cod & the Islands will see temperatures in the mid to low 30s this afternoon and lows in the mid teens overnight.

Western Massachusetts and the Berkshires could see snow showers until 8 a.m., with cooler temperatures to follow. The high temperature in Springfield is expected to reach 27 degrees, and Pittsfield will top out at 20 degrees. Both areas will dip into single digits Thursday night.

Snow could continue to fall in Central Massachusetts until 8 a.m., with a high temperature of 28 degrees and a low of 10 overnight.

Friday will bring mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 20s to 30s across the state.
