The start of the work week will see some sporadic rain ahead of more precipitation that is expected by the end of the week and into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
The forecast for Oct. 16 calls for mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers, the weather service said on X, formerly known as Twitter. The showers are not expected to be a washout, the weather service added.
The Springfield area could see rainfall of less than a tenth of an inch, according to the National Weather Service. The chance of precipitation is 40% in both the Springfield and Worcester areas.
The Boston area could also see less than a tenth of an inch of rain, forecasters said. The chance of precipitation is 30%.
Most of the rain is expected to end Monday evening, but some could linger into the night and into Tuesday, forecasters said in a statement. This mostly applies to the immediate eastern coast, Cape Cod and the Islands.
High temperatures will be in the 50s to near 60, the National Weather Service said.
Drier weather will return on Wednesday and Thursday before another low pressure system is expected to bring “widespread rain” Friday and Saturday, forecasters said. The rain could also last until Sunday.
Strong winds are also possible over the weekend and could bring cooler temperatures on Sunday, the National Weather Service added.
