Mass. weather: Rain, snow overnight, with high winds coming Thursday

Much of Massachusetts will see rain Wednesday evening, before temperatures dip back below freezing overnight.

The National Weather Service forecasts rain spreading across the state from west to east, with the Berkshires receiving a dusting of 1 to 2 inches of snow. Other elevated areas of Central Mass. may receive snow, but with temperatures in the mid-30s throughout the state, most areas will be getting rain.

The National Weather Service expects rain to begin after 5 p.m. in Eastern Mass. and continue overnight. A cold front will arrive overnight, bringing Boston temperatures below 30 degrees for much of Thursday, with winds of 10 to 15 mph making it feel closer to zero degrees by Thursday evening.

Worcester will see rain through the night, with a low temperature of 26 degrees on Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service forecasts up to a quarter-inch of rain for Central and Eastern Mass.

In Pittsfield, temperatures will sink as low as 20 degrees overnight.

Cape Cod will mostly escape the rain, with temperatures expected to remain in the low 30s into Thursday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for most of Massachusetts from Thursday morning to 10 p.m. Thursday night. Winds of 15 to 25 mph will rip through higher-elevation areas, with gusts of up to 50 mph.
