Mass. weather: Busy autumn weekend to see sunny skies, but this is when rain is likely

Mother Nature is cooperating with those who have outdoor plans for the weekend, with sunny skies Saturday and Sunday, and rain not likely to fall until Sunday evening into Monday morning.

Leaf peepers, protesters, Head of the Charles rowers and spectators can enjoy “less wind and warmer afternoon temperatures” on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. High temperatures are expected to reach the low- to mid-60s and overnight will fall to around 49 degrees. “High clouds” will start to drift in by early Saturday afternoon.

Expect it to be a bit warmer on Sunday, with temperatures in the upper-60s to low-70s, the weather service wrote in its forecast discussion shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday.

Forecasters are watching a cold pressure front moving in, and expect rain showers arriving from west to east after about 6 p.m. Sunday. Temperatures are expected to drop Sunday to about 56 degrees.

“Expecting showers across most of our region by the time of the Monday morning commute,” the weather service wrote.

Monday is likely — with an 80% chance — to see rain showers and possibly thunderstorms and wind gusts as fast as 39 mph.

“The pattern remains unsettled as we head into the middle of next week,” forecasters wrote.
