Mass. State Police looking for Brockton man who dragged trooper with car after traffic stop

What started as a traffic stop in Brockton on Thursday has turned into a search as Massachusetts State Police look for a suspect who dragged a trooper after making that initial stop.

The incident happened at around 6 p.m. on Montello Street, when a state trooper pulled a car over for motor vehicle violations, State Police said.

The driver, identified as Derek Lobo, 31, of Brockton, was driving a Mercedes when he was pulled over. Two troopers approached his car, standing close between Lobo and the car door.

Dash camera footage showed one trooper reaching into Lobo’s car, quickly lurching his body inside while the other trooper pushed him in. The car then began to move forward before speeding off. One trooper stepped away while the other held on before eventually letting go after a few yards before Lobo drove off.

Lobo is wanted for assault and battery on a police ffficer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of motor vehicle, and trafficking in fentanyl, among other charges, State Police said in a statement.

The trooper’s injuries were minor, the statement said.

Those with any information about Lobo’s whereabouts are asked to call the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section at 1-800-KAPTURE (1-800-527-8873).
