Mass. man wins $1 million Mega Millions prize after playing same number for 20 years

Luck must run in the Ensko family.

On Wednesday, Thomas Ensko, of Blackstone, claimed a $1 million Mega Millions prize on a ticket he purchased for the game’s Tuesday drawing. He did so with his wife by his side — who has also scored big playing the lottery in the past. More than 20 years ago, she won a $1 million prize from an instant ticket, the Massachusetts State Lottery said in a statement.

Ensko opted to receive his prize as a one-time payment of $1 million before taxes. He told the lottery he had been playing the same numbers for the last 20 years because they “have a lot of similarities” to his birthday.

As for what he plans to do with the money, Ensko told the lottery he intends to help his kids and grandkids.

Ensko purchased the winning ticket at Anderson’s Variety in Blackstone. The store will receive a $10,000 bonus for selling the ticket.
